In the Project Room, Pedro Barateiro presents the work
is the title of a work that includes a sculpture, a sound piece and an edition of a poster. The sculpture is inspired by a quantum computer, a structure of simple geometry, where we see several interconnected forms, on an increasing scale, that functions as energy and content processor. For this information to be processed, it is necessary to create an isolation space, with minimal or no interference from the outside.
The sculpture refers to a possibility of suspension of time and space. The artist creates a connection between this and the artistic creation itself. As in previous works, Barateiro questions the production of binary narratives that shape much of the knowledge produced in the West, from scientific advances to technology, to belief systems and capital.
The sound composition, made by the artist, expands the notion of material and immaterial, a conflict visible in the presence of a large scale sculpture and the apparent immateriality of sound. The poster

s completes the work, with excerpts from texts ranging from distillation processes, to the concept of nihilism or what is considered the beginning of neoliberalism. Abismo is a work about the vertigo and acceleration in late capitalism that produces a collapse of natural resources, but also the need for action in the face of totalitarian and hegemonic discourses.
